Artificial Intelligence Use Policy
Pactum recognizes the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the academic research and publication process and regulates their use to preserve the integrity, originality, and academic rigor of the content it publishes. This policy applies to authors, reviewers, and the editorial team.
Permitted Uses (with mandatory declaration)
The use of AI tools is permitted to support the following auxiliary tasks in the research and writing process, provided that the author reviews, validates, and assumes full responsibility for the result:
- Translation of title, abstract, and keywords.
- Generation or editing of images, graphics, or illustrations (not text).
- Preliminary literature search.
Prohibited Uses
Pactum does not accept manuscripts whose substantive content—analysis, argumentation, findings, or conclusions—has been developed wholly or partially using AI-generated text. The following practices are also prohibited:
- Fabrication of data, citations, or bibliographic references using AI.
- Undeclared use of AI in any of the permitted uses listed above.
Sanctions
If any indication of AI-generated text in the substantive content of the manuscript is confirmed by the Editorial Committee using plagiarism detection tools and AI-generated text (iThenticate), the proposal will be automatically rejected. The same sanction will apply if the circumstance is detected during the review process.
Mandatory declaration
During the originality verification process that follows during manuscript submission, authors must declare whether they used AI for any of the permitted uses.
Use in peer review
Reviewers may use AI only to verify the originality of manuscripts, never to perform critical analysis of them. Uploading manuscripts, in whole or in part, to external AI platforms is strictly prohibited, as this compromises the confidentiality of the double-blind peer review process.
Non-compliance
Failure to disclose the use of AI, detected during the editorial process or after publication, will be treated as a breach of the journal's Code of Ethics and may result in the rejection or retraction of the article.
Policy updates
This policy will be updated as artificial intelligence technologies and their application in editorial and research processes evolve.
